Essere padre a tempo pieno.
Towards gender equality but also role equality
The theme proposed by RSI in the program Il Quotidiano, addresses the figure of the full-time father, that is, the man who takes care of the family and household while the mother maintains the primary role of worker outside the home.
-
A rare but significant choice : only about 1% of men are able (or choose) to take on this role, compared to 30% of women who already work at least partially.
-
Redefining roles : the traditional mother-care/father-income model is being overturned. This highlights both new possibilities for balance and cultural challenges (prejudices, social expectations).
-
Practical aspects : managing the household includes not only caring for the children, but also organizing the home, school and social life.
-
Social and personal challenges : fathers who undertake this choice often find themselves isolated or perceived as “exceptions”, and must build a new role identity.
-
Gender perspective : the fact that it is more normal for a woman to work part-time or manage dual roles, but that the man who chooses the domestic path remains an anomaly, highlights the cultural delay on the issue of equality.
