March 19, 2022, Father's Day, why is it celebrated?

To recognize its importance and reward its parental commitment

Father's Day is an event celebrated in honor of fathers and fatherhood.

According to the belief in the Catholic world, March 19 is the date of the death of Saint Joseph, the "adoptive father" of Jesus.

In the United States, the holiday in honor of fathers is the result of the will of a daughter raised by a single dad.
While listening to a Mother's Day sermon with her father at Central Methodist Church in Spokane in 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd was annoyed that there wasn't a day to honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who raised her and five younger siblings by himself after their mother died in childbirth.
The YMCA in Spokane, Washington, and the Ministerial Alliance endorsed Dodd's idea of Father's Day and held an initial celebration in 1910.
President Woodrow Wilson sanctioned the idea of celebrating Father's Day in 1913 and visited Spokane to join the celebration in 1916. In 1957, US Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine introduced a bill to create a federally proclaimed day by writing:

Either we honor both of our parents, mother and father, or we desist from honoring either.
But single out only one of our two parents and omit the other is the gravest insult imaginable.

Here, with all due respect for Catholic belief, AGNA likes better the recognition of the paternal role expressed by two mothers, confirming that:
-The presence of parents plays a fundamental role in psychosocial development.
Forms the identity of the person and promotes the formation of bonds. -Parents are a mother (female) and a father (male).
-The couple is bearer of care, protection and affection (maternal function) and at the same time of justice and equity (paternal function).
-Their cooperation makes responsible care possible [1]

Concepts whose peculiarity is questioned too easily or selfishly by a society more inclined to claim its rights rather than fulfill its duties.

A dangerous drift that AGNA is undertaking to correct by promoting, on every useful occasion, the importance of the role of fathers, not inferior, not superior, but complementary to the role of mothers.

Happy Fathers Day everyone!
