AGNA promotes an awareness-based model of separation
To help you manage your relationship with your children and accompany you in the transformation of your family after a separation or divorce. Whether you are a father or a mother, AGNA promotes dual parenting and the ability for both parents to play their role as guardians of their children.
Towards gender equality but also role equality
The theme proposed by RSI in the program Il Quotidiano, addresses the figure of the full-time father, that is, the man who takes care of the family and household while the mother maintains the primary role of worker outside the home.
- A rare but significant choice : only about 1% of men are able (or choose) to take on this role, compared to 30% of women who already work at least partially.
- Redefining roles : the traditional mother-care/father-income model is being overturned. This highlights both new possibilities for balance and cultural challenges (prejudices, social expectations).
- Practical aspects : managing the household includes not only caring for the children, but also organizing the home, school and social life.
- Social and personal challenges : fathers who undertake this choice often find themselves isolated or perceived as “exceptions”, and must build a new role identity.
- Gender perspective : the fact that it is more normal for a woman to work part-time or manage dual roles, but that the man who chooses the domestic path remains an anomaly, highlights the cultural delay on the issue of equality.
Our work for 2024
Dear Members, Friends and Supporters, The holidays are approaching, and as usual we summarize the activity of the year that is about to end, a year that has once again seen us busy on various fronts. In January we launched our new service " Collaborative separation” with orientation evenings for separating families. “Collaborative Separation” is a project/service based on proven methodologies such as the Cochem model, the Australian model and the more recent "consensus-parental", currently already implemented in Valais. It aims to make parents responsible, relieve the competent authorities and accelerate the definition of a post-separation or divorce care model that ensures optimal relationships between children and both parents. A project that anticipates the objectives of the Federal Council's family policy (link: Families and family policy in Switzerland - Challenges in 2040). On 22 March we organized an afternoon of study on "Domestic violence against men". AGNA wanted to delve deeper into a topic that it does
Dear Members, Friends and Supporters,
The holidays are approaching, and as usual we summarize the activities of the year that is about to end, a year that has once again seen us busy on various fronts.
In January we launched our new " Collaborative Separation " service with orientation evenings for separating families. A project that anticipates the objectives of the family policy of the Federal Council (link: Families and family policy in Switzerland – Challenges in 2040).
On March 22nd we organized an afternoon of study on "Domestic violence against men" . AGNA wanted to delve deeper into a topic that is part of the domestic violence prevention campaign. In particular, regarding this phenomenon which seems not to be well known or explored but which, unfortunately, is also present in our society. Sensitivity to the problem of men and suggestions to work in this direction are welcomed as an affront to the effort to improve the situation of women. There are fears that it will be detrimental to the commitment to women. From the debate it emerged that this is not the case, on the contrary, it was recognized that talking about it can be of help to everyone. AGNA will return to this topic in the new year.
On 6 June, in collaboration with Rete Donna, we organized the workshop "Family and Parenting: evolving concepts" . It was an opportunity to reflect on the concepts and their evolution over the years and study the areas (pedagogical, social, economic) in which a correct recognition of the composition of families with separated parents can positively impact the quality of life, with particular regard to good of the children. What emerged from the debate was the importance, for children of separated/divorced parents, of being able to maintain relationships and benefit from the care of both. And our “Collaborative Separation” service helps parents achieve this goal.
On 22 September we were received at a hearing by the Justice Commission, where we were able to reiterate the importance and relevance of our invitations and amendments formulated in January 2022 to the ARP reorganization project , still under consideration by the cantonal legislature. Still on the topic, on 30 October we forwarded our observations during the consultation of the project "Procedural law on the protection of minors and adults (LPPMA)".
We could not miss our commitment to remember the harmful consequences of parental alienation on the children of separated or divorced parents. On World Children's Rights Day 2024, we invited everyone to join us at the Maghetti District in Lugano, for a commemorative vigil to symbolically remember, with the lighting of candles, all the alienated children in Switzerland. According to the Family Report of the Federal Statistical Office, almost a tenth of separated fathers and mothers whose children live with the other parent no longer have contact with their children. This is estimated to affect around 13,000 children in Switzerland. Parent-child alienation is a situation in which one parent attempts to distance the child from the other parent, often in the context of conflictual separations or divorces. It is a serious form of psychological abuse towards the children involved and violates their right to two-parenthood, enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, also signed by Switzerland.
On November 27, in collaboration with the Ticino section of Business Professional Women, we organized an afternoon study on "Alternating custody: how to encourage its diffusion" . Following the publication of the Federal Council Report on alternate custody on 24 April 2024, a lively debate on the topic developed not only among professionals in the various professional fields interested in the issue, but also among ordinary people. Objective of the meeting: to compare the opinions of various professionals (lawyer, judge, psychologist, educator, mediator) who in carrying out their work deal with families in the delicate phase of separation or divorce or more specifically with minor children. Conclusions: Alternating custody should be promoted and facilitated because the children's needs (in terms of care) and the consequences of separation vary depending on their age. They must be protected from the "issues of the adults" and even more so from conflicts. They must be listened to because they must continue to have access to and rely on both parents.
As you can see, a lot of work, which for the good of our children, we have tackled with enthusiasm and will continue to do so in 2025. We will update you on our projects as soon as possible.
On behalf of the Committee and the operators of the AGNA branches, to whom our sincere thanks go,
Happy New Year and good work to everyone.

Afternoon of study and awareness on the need to apply good practices for the management of daily life after separation or divorce "immediately and better".
Tuesday, March 8 "Women's Day" , an occasion to celebrate the important role that women play in the social community, and remember how much more there is to do to achieve complete gender equality in our society.
And it does so by promoting the implementation of "good practices" such as:
- recognize and respect the importance of both parental roles for the psychophysical development of children;
- facilitate the relationship of children with both parents;
- recognize and equally assume their parental duties in education and care;
- assume in common, each to the extent of his strength, to pay due maintenance of the child.
Good practices, which, if recognised, respected and implemented on a daily basis by us citizens, by institutions, by support services, by the economic world, bring well-being and serenity to children, fathers and mothers, in full respect of gender equality.
We will deal with: alternating custody, mediation, the calculation of care contributions, the working method of the institutions.
There are numerous open questions and the study afternoon is intended to be an opportunity to take stock of the situation and agree on corrective actions between all the players involved (parents, magistrates, lawyers, members of the ARP, mediators, sociologists, psychologists, educators, etc.) .
